A706 SWR (Stud Weldable Rebar) is a type of reinforcing steel bar that is specifically designed to be welded using standard stud welding equipment. Stud Welding Products A706 SWR meets the ASTM A706 GR 60 specification, which ensures it has the necessary properties for seismic-resistant structures and other demanding applications.
How can A706 SWR benefit you?
- You can achieve a Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) weld in under a second.
- Create automatic, machine controlled, full penetration welds with consistently high-quality versus fillet weld.
- Save time – up to 8-10 minutes per weld on certain CJP welds using the automatic stud welding arc process in comparison to using the standard welding process.
- Save money – certified welding technician NOT required! Minimal training is needed to operate our stud welding equipment.
- No ICC evaluation reports required, ICC evaluation reports are used for proprietary products which do not have other building code acceptance.
Key features of A706 GR 60 SWR include:
Weldability: Fully stud weldable, allowing for quick and reliable welding to other steel components.
Material: Low-alloy steel that meets A706 specifications.
Applications: Commonly used in precast concrete, bridge and building construction, seismic management, and other projects where ductility and strong connections are crucial.
What is ASTM A706 specification?
The ASTM A706 specification covers deformed and plain low-alloy steel bars for concrete reinforcement. These bars are designed to have restrictive mechanical properties and chemical composition to enhance weldability and ensure compatibility with controlled tensile property applications.
Key aspects of ASTM A706 specification include:
Grades: The specification includes two grades, Grade 60 and Grade 80, which refer to the minimum yield strength of the material (60,000 psi and 80,000 psi, respectively). SWP offers A706 GR 60 only.
Mechanical Properties: The bars must meet specific tensile and yield strength requirements, as well as elongation and bend test criteria.
Chemical Composition: Limits on elements like carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon to ensure weldability.
Our A706 SWR meets the following requirements:
- ASTM A706 GR 60 – Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain Low-Alloy
- ACI 318 – Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete
- Chapter 18 ACI (318-14) – Earthquake Resistant Structures
- Seismic Design Requirements for Dulce Stell Reinforcing Elements
- Stud-weldable in accordance with the requirements AWS D1.1/D1.1 M, Structural Welding Code-Steel Clause 9 Stud Welding and/or AWS D1.4/D1.4 M 2020
